Ethanol Resources
What is Ethanol?
- Ethanol is the result of the fermentation of sugars and starches by yeast
- It is a clear, colorless, flammable, oxygenated fuel
- Contains 35% oxygen by weight
- Has an octane rating of 113
- Has a short half-life: 26 hours vs. 500 years with MTBE
- Expected results from Fagen/ICM plant:
One bushel of corn yields
-
- 2.8 gallons of ethanol
- 18 lbs. of dried distiller grain
- 16 lbs. of carbon dioxide
- Does not pollute ground water*
- Enhances engine combustion*
- Reduces air emissions*
- Reduces greenhouse gas emissions*
- Only fuel that is CO2 positive*
- Consumes 20% more CO2 in its creation than is emitted during the manufacturing and burning process*
